Camp
For children ages 4-15. Our day camp program is designed to achieve a balance between instruction, recreation, team building skills, and individual accomplishment. Activity areas include Nature, Sports, Team Challenge, High & Low Adventure, Rock Climbing, Archery, Canoeing and Kayaking, Arts & Crafts, Hiking and Mountain Biking. All Campers have two chances to swim each day with daily swim lessons and open swim.
Camp/Program Director Hired!
We are pleased to announce the hiring of Christopher Maddy as our Camp/Program Director. Chris is completing his senior year at Springfield College, majoring in Youth Development, with a minor in YMCA Professional Studies. Chris is no stranger to the Westfield YMCA, having grown up here; attending our Preschool, participating in swim lessons and competing on our swim team. He also served two summers on our Camp Shepard staff and has since served as the Assistant Summer Program Director at Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA in Becket, MA. Welcome aboard Chris! We look forward to seeing new and exciting developments at Camp Shepard this summer!

These camps run for full days from 9:00AM-4:00PM. The mornings (from 9:00AM-12:00Noon) are devoted to the specialty program. The remainder of the day (from 12:00PM-4:00PM), the campers participate in regular activities at Camp Shepard. All specialty campers must complete the Camp Shepard Registration Form and Camp Shepard Health Form. Extended Care hours and Bus transportation are available for these camps. Please indicate on the registration form.
Video Production Camp
Ages: 12-15
Dates: August 5-August 16 (session 4)
Cost: Member $375 Non-member $390
In this two week camp participants will explore the world of broadcasting and video production with hands on experience. Created to teach both “on air” and behind the scenes skills, this camp includes production design and storyboarding, camera operation techniques, learning how to conduct effective interviews and build on camera presence, sound engineering and video editing. The final product will be a comprehensive news magazine style program centering around life at Camp Shepard. All filming will take place on Camp Shepard grounds. On Thursday August 15, a “premier” will be held at 6:30 PM at Camp Shepard.
Mini Musical Camp
Dates: July 22- August 2 (session 3)
Cost: Member $375 Non Member $390
Ages: 7+
Calling all actors, singers and dancers! In this two week camp we will complete a simple, fun production, complete with backdrops, props and simple costuming that the campers design and create themselves. We will have a performance on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Camp Shepard.
Pop Rock & Roll Music Camp
Dates: August 19 – August 23 (session Superweek)
Cost: Member $240 Non member $255
Ages: 5-8
Campers will play piano and rhythm instruments. We will make a rhythm instrument and learn how to write a song! Each day the pop stars will come out in each child as they have an opportunity to sing karaoke and learn the latest dance steps. This is a great week of fun and learning for your music lover!
Basketball Camps: Two one-week camps. Campers may choose to attend only the one week of basketball or may attend one week of the basketball camp followed by one week at Camp Shepard for a full two week session.
Ages: 6-9 years old:
Campers will focus on the development of offensive and defensive skills, strengthen team concepts and build a greater enjoyment of the game. Clinics, practices, skill contests, and 5 on 5 games will all be a part of the fun and progress.

Ages: 9-11
Designed to help prepare intermediate and advance players for their next level of play. It will focus on the development of upper level skills through competitive drills, team building strategies, game play and experienced staff.

Camp Shepard Preschool Enrichment Program
Preschool summer enrichment is a summer program for children ages 4-5. This is a developmentally appropriate and fun experience where children are encouraged to grow in independence and social skills in a safe environment. The program runs in one-week sessions from 9:00AM-12:00PM, Monday through Friday. Activities include a daily swim lesson, story time, outside play and a snack. These activities encourage large and small motor skills, creativity, and language development. Your child will gain confidence, self-discipline and an increased ability to relate to other children and adults.
An adult teacher as well as one or more aides guide each group of children.

Cost per week: Member $100 Non-member $105
All Preschool Enrichment campers must complete the Camp Shepard Registration Form and Camp Shepard Health Form. A $50 non-refundable deposit for each session reserved is required. Full payment must be made by the Monday of the week prior to the session your child will attend. Refunds will not be given after the start of a paid session.

Bus transportation is not available for this program. Parent drop off and pick up at camp.
